Erectile dysfunction is a common medical condition where a man could not produce or sustain an erection needed for a sexual activity. This medical condition is due to the decline of the chemical cGMP, which is responsible for the dilation of blood vessels in the penis to enhance blood flow to the penis and produce an erection. This decline in levels of cGMP is due to its breakdown by the enzyme PDE5.
Tadora is a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction in men. This medication contains 20mg of the active ingredient Tadalafil, a drug that belongs to the PDE5 inhibitors. The drug blocks the action of PDE5 in breaking down cGMP to restore and increase blood flow to the penis. Tadalafil is also indicated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Tadora is manufactured by HAB Pharmaceuticals & Research Ltd.
Tadora is contraindicated in patients who have experienced hypersensitivity reaction to Tadalafil and to any of the tablet ingredients.
It is also contraindicated to patients who are taking any form of organic nitrates and guanylate cyclase (GC) stimulators like riociguat as Tadalafil (Tadora) is known to potentiate the hypotensive effects of these drugs.
Warnings and Precautions
A patient must inform a doctor of all other medical conditions before taking Tadora, to make sure that the medication is safe to use. The medical conditions worth mentioning may include:
- • Cardiovascular problems
- • Recent heart attack in the past 3 months
- • Recent history of stroke in the past 6 months
- • Liver or kidney disease
- • Blood cell disorder
- • Bleeding disorder
- • Stomach ulcer
- • Retinitis pigmentosa
- • Deformity of penis
Tadora is not indicated for use by women. There are no studies of Tadalafil use in pregnant and breastfeeding women.
A patient must also inform a doctor of all other medications or supplements being taken or have stopped using, to determine possible drug interactions. Tadora may interact with the following medications:
- • Antihypertensives and alpha blockers – may cause potentiation of blood pressure lowering effects
- • Antacids – may reduce absorption rate of Tadalafil
- • CYP450 Inhibitors such as some antifungals and antivirals – increase Tadalafil exposure
- • CYP450 Inducers such as seizure medications – decrease Tadalafil exposure
Consult a doctor for more information on Tadora’s safe use.
Tadora and Alcohol
Drinking alcohol while taking Tadalafil (Tadora) may increase the blood pressure lowering effects of both the alcohol and the medication. The combination may increase the risk of side effects such as increased heart rate, dizziness, headache, and decrease in standing blood pressure.
Tadora and Grapefruit
Consumption of grapefruit products must be avoided as it may interact with Tadalafil (Tadora) and cause adverse effects.
A tablet of Tadora must be taken by mouth, swallowed whole with a full glass of water. It may be taken without regard to food. The recommended doses below are not substitutes for doctor’s advice. Consult a doctor to receive accurate dosing instructions based on individual needs.
When used as needed, the usual recommended dose of Tadalafil (Tadora) for most patients is 10mg once, taken prior to sexual activity as an initial dose. Maintenance dose may be adjusted, either decreased to 5mg or increased to 20mg, once as needed, depending on the patient’s response to the treatment. When used as needed, the medication has been shown to improve erectile dysfunction up to 36 hours after intake.
Tadora may also be used once daily for erectile dysfunction. Initial dose is 2.5mg taken once a day at same times each day regardless of the time of sexual activity. The dose may be adjusted between 2.5mg to 5mg depending on the drug’s efficacy and patient’s tolerance.
For erectile dysfunction and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), 5mg of Tadalafil (Tadora) may be taken once a day at same times each day regardless of sexual activity time.
If Tadora is taken on a daily basis and a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered, but skip it if it’s almost time for the next dose. Taking an extra dose to make up for the missed dose is not recommended.
The use of Tadora does not cure erectile dysfunction and offers no protection against sexually transmitted diseases.
Tadora may commonly cause the following side effects:
- • Headache
- • Dizziness
- • Dyspepsia
- • Diarrhea
- • Sinus pain, nasal congestion
- • Sore throat
- • Muscle pain
A patient must rise up slowly from sitting or lying position to reduce the risk of dizziness or lightheadedness.
A doctor must be notified for any of the following side effects:
- • Ringing in ears or sudden hearing loss
- • Irregular heartbeat
- • Shortness of breath
- • Seizure
Intake of Tadora must be stopped and medical help is urgently needed for any of these serious side effects. Patients with heart problems may experience serious side effects during sexual activity and these may be signs of heart attack such as:
- • Severe dizziness
- • Fainting
- • Nausea
- • Sweating
- • Chest pain
- • Pain spreading to jaw, shoulder, or left arm
Patients may also experience the following serious side effects:
