Product Information

Ulticept contains 500mg of the drug called Ciprofloxacin. This drug is a fluoroquinolone that belongs to the drug class called quinolone antibiotics. This antibiotic is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections such as but not limited to:

  • Skin infections
  • Respiratory tract infections
  • Bone and joint infections
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Infectious diarrheas caused by bacteria like Shigella, E. coli, or Campylobacter jejuni
  • Cervical and urethral gonorrhea
  • Typhoid fever
  • Anthrax

Antibiotics are not effective in treating viral infections. Ciprofloxacin works in stopping the multiplication of bacteria by preventing the repair and reproduction of genetic material (DNA) of bacteria.

Fluoroquinolone antibiotics can cause disabling and serious side effects which is why it should only be used to treat bacterial infections where no safer alternatives are available.

Ulticept 500 is manufactured by Concept Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

Each patient will vary in dosage for it will also depend on the type of bacterial infection to be treated. Below are examples of usual adult dosages for different bacterial infections:

Ulticept tablet is taken by mouth, swallowed whole with a glass of water. It may be taken with or without food. However, it must not be taken alone with a dairy product such as yogurt, milk, or calcium-rich juice. These products may be eaten or drank as part of a meal, but not used alone when taking ciprofloxacin. Tablets may be taken 1 to 2 hours before or at least 4 hours after intake of dairy products.

Ulticept must be used strictly as prescribed. Complete the full prescribed duration of therapy despite improvement of symptoms. Misuse of antibiotics may cause further infection that is resistant to antibiotics. A missed dose may be taken as soon as remembered, but skipped if it’s almost time for the next dose. Dose must not be doubled or increased just to make up for the missed dose.

Ulticept is contraindicated to patients who are allergic to Ciprofloxacin and to other quinolone antibiotics. Concomitant use with tizanidine is also contraindicated.
